A nonprofit was granted $3.4 million to open a dental clinic with the caveat that operations would be privately funded. The Board of Directors and leadership were at odds and doubted the project’s success. With a process rooted in Appreciative Inquiry, the conversation was focused on organizational strengths and convened an all-star Think Tank comprised of business leaders, health care and higher education professionals, and public officials to discover what was possible. With a budgeted strategic plan, over $1 million in start-up funds were raised and a dentist was hired. Today, the dental clinic serves over 3,800 patients annually.
